DMU graduate Maneet Chauhan recently made history by becoming the first British designer to be featured in India’s biggest fashion event, the Lakme Fashion Week. Held in Mumbai, this five-day event is the biggest fashion showcase in India and showcases the work of leading Indian designers. Maneet, who graduated from De Montfort University in Leicester with a degree in fashion design, showcased her solo collection of bridal couture at the event. Her collection was inspired by traditional Indian embroidery and the vibrant colours of her homeland. Maneet’s collection featured intricate beading, intricate fabrics, and intricate hand embroidery. The collection was a mix of traditional and modern styles, with an emphasis on intricate handwork. The designs included traditional lehengas, saris, dresses and gowns, all crafted with intricate detailing and beautiful embellishments.
