December 7th, 2011The Sri Lankan Design Festival 2011. Planned in the month of November showed a big success after being held for three consecutive years. The event initiated by the academy of design was organized in Colombo. The grand event started with participation by the island craft exhibition and was followed by a fashion show held by them.
It was a mix among the traditions and modern culture of srilanka, reflecting the beauty and uniqueness of the country. The fashion show was themed with inspiration from the traditional craft. The desigeners participated were Dharshi Keertisena, Kasuni Ratnasuriya, Terin Gabbalage, Kandygs, Yolanda Aluvihare and Prabath Samarasooriya.
It was not just a fashion show but also had collection including apparels, utensils and interiors made of handloom and batik textiles, beeralu, Lac-work, brass ware, ceramics, Palmyrah, cane, paper, shell and coir created by hundreds of artisans from rural areas of Sri Lanka which were on display and available for purchase at the Pop-up store.
The Founder of the SLDF and Managing Director of the Academy of Design later defines the motif of the festival as not just a fashion event but an opportunity that captures “the essence of the country” and promoting the talent of Sri Lanka on a global front.
As SLDF 2011 was a meeting point for designers, buyers, retailers and industry experts from all over the world. It was a fantastic site for networking for those in the creative fields, or in fashion and apparel businesses. Also created an opportunity to meet others in a similar or related industry and to form and strengthen partnerships that will increase connections between businesses and ultimately, countries themselves.

Think creative…
December 6th, 2011Creativity should always be appreciated….. And there are tones of creative ants around us. Today we gone spot out the creative displays uploaded online…it’s great fun, to sit and appreciate others hard work and motivate them.
When the main point to remember is be different and influence your customer for them to like your display, with the elements used or may the lighting.
• This one is a tie web, interesting, I would have never tried this out. It’s just to come out of the normal way of tie display.
• They love to use unusual coverings for walls and other display surfaces. They have defined their pet area by creating a wall design comprised of dog bones. Unexpected twists are a great way to draw attention to an area of your store. If you create interesting, unique displays on a regular basis, your customers will come in looking for that next clever example. Inspire your customers with your displays.
• This is just to make the customer visit the main area in your store with the major merchandise placed there. These unusual objects take the kick.
Thus we can grab the attention by either a display of basic items in an unusual way, to make the customer feel the creative way of displaying the ties. Then is by lighting or by using additional elements, which will make the customer go visit that are in the store….hum creative….

Jaala Pickering a model enters Hollywood industry
December 5th, 2011 Sohan Roy’s directs a new 3D film, “Dam 999” . It has been filmed in Alleppey, Kerala, and is a tribute to the 2,50,000 people who lost their lives in the 1975 Banqiao Dam disaster in China.
• The astonishing news here is after 10years of modeling the actress of the movie enters our film industry. The British model Jaala Pickering lands up in Kerala.
• Exciting!!! The same is her view for this step. It’s her first big role, and a movie shoot in India.
• What will be people’s reaction is the only question in her mind.
• She is flying high….as besides this a famous UK tabloid already pitched Jaala as the next ‘It’ girl after British supermodel Sienna Miller.
• The 27-year-old is playing the role of Maria in Dam 999. She is excited because the fame she is getting as she aims really high, wants to be the next British girl to make it big in Hollywood.
• Explaining her character in the film she says she will portrays her emotion with colour black also representing fear in the movie. Her character lives in fear of her husband. Confined in a wheelchair, Maria is quite repressed and gives up on life until her brother comes along to rescue her.
All this sounds interesting, hope Sohan Roy can keep up our hopes and give up a good film line and a better future to this model
